Logo of the Working Group

AG-Logo-v2

A description of the logo of the working group is given in the publication "Mitteilungen zur Astronomiegeschichte No. 1, December 1992, p. 2".

Translation of the German text:

"This logo, two characters A with a telescope tube, was derived from the name of the working group (Arbeitskreis Astronomiegeschichte) and the mountings of Herschel's large telescopes (see picture).

Herschel's 20 foot telescope

It is a symbol for the universe and also for the past. The reference to William Herschel, who as a German lived and worked in England, also indicates the internationality of Astronomy, the Astronomische Gesellschaft and the working group.

Design of the logo: Anton Dick following an idea of W. R. Dick.
